This is just a preview/practice for what is to come for PMX ‘12

(The scar looks like it’s on the wrong side…but it’s not…my camera decided to flip my face lolol)

MANICURE MUSE: Marc Jacobs Resort ‘13

MANICURE MUSE: Marc Jacobs Resort ‘13

If you were at all intimated by Marc Jacob’s theatrical Fall ‘12 collection, take a deep sigh of relief. His taste of Spring is looking a little more upbeat and understandable. In fact, the key word for the Resort ‘13 collection is “fun.” Inspired by Cindy Sherman’s “Clown Series,” it features mix-scaled clashing prints in vibrant colors. While some of the looks still have a costumey feel, the sequined striped tees are super cute and are as retail-friendly as it gets. Above all, the micro floral dresses with the thirties-feel really capture my heart.

To emulate this look, I used Canary by Joe Fresh, Check Me Out by L’Oreal, and Royal by Love & Beauty.

To get these ladyfingers:

1. Paint 3-4 nails pink and 1-2 nails yellow (based on your preference)

2. Using a nail art brush, paint equidistant horizontal lines of shimmery blue

3. Top it off with Deborah Lippmann’s Umbrella top coat

(Photo: Fashionologie.com)

Easy Summer Makeup-
It’s almost summer, meaning...

makeup-madness:

Easy Summer Makeup-

It’s almost summer, meaning I start focusing less on covering every flaw, and more on being comfortable! I basically live in easy and quick looks throughout the summer. Here’s one of them! :)

1. I start each eye look by priming my lids. I like to keep my eyeshadows neutral in color and easy to apply. Here, I’m wearing a mixture of Sidecar and Buck by Urban Decay (Naked palette), with Lorac’s 01 Brown eyeliner in the water line and smudged along the upper lashline. Waterproof mascara is the way to go in the summer, as it will stay in place all day and is sweat proof (ew)! I’m using Maybelline Falsies Waterproof Mascara.

2. WEAR SUNSCREEN!! For skin, I like to keep it nice and simple. Mixing liquid foundation with moisturizer will give a sheer coverage and even out the skin tone (a tinted moisturizer or BB cream will work too!). Here, I’m using that technique with my Make Up For Ever HD Foundation in 110. To add a little color to my ghostly complexion, I used Bare Minerals Faux Tan applied to where the sun would naturally hit (tops of the cheeks, nose, forehead, chin).

3. If I choose to wear a lip color at all, it’s always one that’s light, moisturizes, and stains my lips. Since the eyes are so neutral, I love playing around with bold and bright lip colors. The one I’m using is Urban Decay Super Saturated in Crush. Lip colors are an easy way to turn a day look into a night look.

4. Done!

Happy (almost) summer!

recipe-file:

Chocolate Chip, Cocoa Nib and Toasted Walnut Cookies Topped with Artisan Sea Salt

Ingredients

1 cup granulated white sugar

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

2 sticks organic unsalted butter

2 large organic eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 1/2 cups of unbleached flour

3 cups bittersweet chocolate chips

2 cups toasted chopped walnuts

3/4 cup cocoa nibs

sprinkled sea salt crystals on top (optional)

Preparation

1. Mix both sugars and butter until soft, and add eggs to the mixer one at a time. Then add vanilla, then baking soda and then salt while continuing to mix. Next, add the flour one cup at a time. Last, fold in the chocolate chips, walnuts and cocoa nibs.

2. Drop teaspoon-sized amounts of the dough onto a non-stick sheet pan, or even better, use a baking stone and top with a few sea salt crystals.

3. Bake at 325ºF for 15–18 min. or until the edges are browned or they reach your preferred doneness. I personally love them a bit overdone so they get crispy, almost candy-like. Serve with cold milk, a glass of pinot or port. — Enjoy!!!

erehwyna:

in the kitchen

there’s no better feeling than when 2 favorite recipes

combine to become 1 favorite meal.

here’s the dish:

giada’s balsamic chicken drumettes + silver palate slaw (my dad’s version)

follow g’s recipe to a tee - the outcome is otherworldly, like high brow hot wings. (just sub out soy sauce for tamari to make it gluten free) and for the slaw?

2 cups blanched brussels sprouts

2 cups shredded red cabbage

4 tablespoons sherry vinegar

4 tablespoons pure maple syrup

1 tablespoon dijon-style mustard

1/2 cup walnut oil

pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

salt and pepper to taste

1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

whisk vinegar, syrup and mustard together. gradually, whisk in the oil. season to taste. toss the sprouts and cabbage with the vinaigrette. finally, sprinkle some walnuts.

(this slaw can be found in the silver palate good times cookbook - from 1985. the silver palate was a manhattan gourmet food shop that ruled the roost in the 80’s. one of its owners, shelia lukins, was a prolific cookbook writer - hers were some of the very first i pulled off my mother’s shelves when i was little. as my dad said recently, ‘there isn’t one recipe in this book that isn’t perfect!’ it’s true. plus, good times are guaranteed in the title. verified by the amazing cover photo)

What you need:

1/2 onion, finely diced

5 large eggs

Splash of milk

2 tbsp butter

1 tomato, diced

1/2 ball fresh mozzarella, diced

1/4 avocado, diced

Olive oil

Salt & pepper

What you do:

1. Heat a little olive oil and saute the onions until just translucent. Set aside.

2. Whisk together the eggs and milk in a small bowl.

3. Heat the butter in a frying pan until foaming (be generous with your butter; this is a more-is-better situation) and then add the eggs and scramble while they cook so they’re nice and fluffy.

4. Toss in the onion, tomato, mozzarella, and avocado, season to taste, and serve.

milkmadeicecream:

MANICURE MUSE: Sportmax AW’12

MANICURE MUSE: Sportmax AW’12

It seems that designers all over the world are looking East for inspiration. Much like the Proenza Schouler AW’12 collection here in New York, Sportmax also showcased martial arts and Asian influences by way of short sleeved jackets and quilted belts in Milan. This is one of my favorite looks from the collection. The boxy shift dress works double duty with curvy paneling keeping the look feminine. The best part, however, is the double-tiered structured cap-sleeves.

To emulate this look, I used Devonshire Row, Holland Park and Chelsea by Nails Inc.

To get these ladyfingers:

1. Paint your full nail black

2. Paint a lighter purple-colored symmetrical rounded shape within the black part of your nail

3. Follow the inside of the shape by painting a smaller one with a darker colored purple

4. Using a nail art pen, draw hashed lines to create the quilting effect

5. Top it off with top coat

Okonomiyaki

Mix Okonomiyaki flour, water, and egg together. Then cut cabbage in half and make very fine slices (you can throw away the core of the cabbage if you want) and cut these in half. Add cabbage to batter and mix well. Let batter sit for about 10-15 minutes. In the meantime, cut bacon slices in half and heat a small amount of oil in pan. Pour about half of the batter into pan and use the 2 spatulas to spread out and form the batter into a circle. Place the strips of bacon on top and wait until the bottom has become slightly brown. Next, place the 2 spatulas on opposite sides of the okonomiyaki and flip (This can be difficult at first, but the best tip is to do this fast. Do not try to flip it slowly or carefully!!) Also it is best not to squish or flatten okonomiyaki, while cooking! Wait until the bacon has cooked and become slightly crispy. You make choose to flip one or two more time, but the best way to check if it is cooked is to take the corner of the spatula and slightly press the center. If the batter “puffs” back up then it is likely cooked. (cooking time can vary depending on how thick you make it) Next, transfer to plate and pour lines of Okonomiyaki sauce and mayonaise on top. Add the katsuo and ao nori next and ENJOY! :D

About okonomiyaki: It is very difficult to explain what Okonomiyaki is; however, it is similiar to a savory pancake with a slightly liquid-y center. Okonomiyaki means to “grill as you like it.” So, you can basically add anything you want to the batter. In this recipe, I have made the very basic Kansai or Osaka style Okonomiyaki, but you can add so much more! Some common ingredients include, shrimp, green onions, red pickled ginger, etc. Also (one of my favorites) is to add cheese and mochi! It may sound strange, but it is absolutely delicious! P:

I hope this will help you! Okonomiyaki is a delicious and probably not a very well know dish in America, but hopefully this will get you cooking! It is super easy once you get a hang of flipping and is a lot of fun to cook with friends xD

What you need:

- Rice

- Seaweed

- Water

- Salt

- Furikake, konbu, or anything you want to put inside

1) Place rice in a bowl so that it can cool down and it won’t burn your hands.

2) Wet your hands with water and sprinkle salt on the palm of one hand.

3) Spread the rice out flat on one hand to make a long oval-like shape.

4) Make a small indent in the center with one hand and fill with a small amount of filling.

5) Fold the rice over in hand and begin to shape. This can be a little difficult the first time, but it will get easier with practice.

6) With your other hand, use your index and middle finger along with the palm of you hand to form the top of the “triangle.

7) Squeeze firmly, using your other hand to form the sides.

8) Place a small sheet of Seaweed on the outside and enjoy!

This makes a very easy and inexpensive lunch or snack! If you make it the night before, I recommend leaving the seaweed separately and then wrapping it right before you eat so that the seaweed does not become soggy. You can also make these any size you want, although I usually making them small simply because my hands are small :D

Fillings:

In the demo, I used Konbu or seasoned seaweed that is chopped finely. However, you can use basically anything you want. I prefer using furikake (dried mix of different things like fish, seasame, seaweed, salt, egg) or ume (pickled plum). You can also use fish like salmon or beef!

            - Post-it notes (any size you want)

            - Glue or double-sided tape

Steps:

With the sticky side on the lower right, fold the paper in half making a triangle.

Fold the bottom corners of the triangle up to top point, forming a square.

Fold each flap that you just folded and fold it back. Make sure it lines up with the edge of the square underneath; this should make a triangle form.

Open each of the triangle forms and flatten them into diamonds. Be careful not to tear the paper with the sticky side.

Fold the top part of each triangle over so that it is level with the side of the square beneath.

Fold the triangle shape in half along the already existing crease.

Place a small amount of glue or tape on each triangle and glue the pedal together.

Repeat these steps 4 more times and then glue these petals together to form a complete flower~!
